Course #5344B

Easy Rider

Wednesdays 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM Apr 27, May 4, 11, 25, June 1

Join a group of low riders who love to ride motorcycles at a slow and easy pace, taking in the beauty of rural Center, Clinton and Clearfield counties. The rides will go through Central PA Amish country and other back roads, with stops at various locations along the way for refreshments, rests and sightseeing. Participants must provide all of their own equipment. Helmets are required! Rides will be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather.

Instructor: Walt Peterson, the former Bellefonte Borough Manager, has been riding motorcycles since he was 18 years old. He has experience with all types of on- and off-road motorcycles. Upon retiring, he purchased a Harley Davidson Sportster and enjoys getting out on the back roads taking in the beauties of nature. He prefers the quieter motorcycles so as not to scare the wildlife and folks along the way.

Location: Meet at Lykens Market/Gas Station at the “Y” intersection of Routes #64 and #550 in Zion at 10:00 AM each ride date.

Course #5345B

From Walking to Hiking: An Introduction to Hiking in Penn’s Woods

Mondays 9:00 AM - Noon Apr 26, May 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 (Note: Some dates are outside Spring Term dates.)

Enjoy a form of recreation that can refresh the spirit and relax the body, both mentally and physically. Learn the joy of hiking as a natural extension of walking (among the best exercises for cardiovascular health) and gain an appreciation of the ever-changing, but predictable constancy of nature. Each Penn’s Woods’ hike is from 4 to 7 miles, no longer than 3 hours (or so) and all within reasonable driving distance of Bellefonte. Note: Participants should wear comfortable hiking footwear and bring water and snacks.

Instructor: Kent Addis, formerly on the staff of Continuing Education at PSU and then the Executive Director of the Bellefonte Family YMCA, enjoys running, bicycling and skiing.

Location: First meeting site: parking area at Fisherman’s Paradise, off Rte 150 (Benner Pike) just south of Bellefonte. Subsequent sites will be announced at the completion of each weekly hike.

The instructor may be contacted at 353-7399 or kra1@psu.edu for additional information.

Course #5346

Songbird Migration

Tuesdays Noon – 1:00 PM Apr 5, 12, 19, 26, May 3, 10

Learn about spring bird migration – particularly songbird migration. Both visual and auditory identification basics will be reviewed with the goal of providing participants with the skills to continue to learn on their own. An optional field trip will be scheduled for those who are interested.

Instructor: Mark Henry has over 35 years of birding experience. Text: A good field guide such as Peterson’s Field Guide to Birds (Eastern U.S.) is highly recommended, but not required.

Location: Centre Region Senior Center, 131 S. Fraser Street, State College
