To give all CALL members an equal opportuniy to enroll in classes, any course registrations received by mail, in person or by phone before February 22 will be held and randomly processed on that date.

 

It is extremely important that registrations be in the CALL office by the deadline.

International Perspectives from Humphrey Scholars

Note: this course begins early Hubert H. Humphrey fellows are workforce professionals who live in the U.S. for one year for the purpose of gaining educational experience. They also contribute to the communities in which they are located by sharing their professional perspectives from their own cultures.

Egypt, The Land of Mystery: An overview of Egypt’s location, population, religion, society and history. Scholar: Maged Fikry Amen Khalil has a B.A. in Literature and Linguistics from Tanta University. He is currently a Teacher of English in the Ministry of Education and Centre for Adult and Continuing Education and is interested in the theoretical and applied aspects of teaching English as a Foreign Language.

The Kingdom of Swaziland: An overview of life in Swaziland: its culture and tradition, HIV/Aids issues, the education system and other general problems in the kingdom. Scholar: Sibili Nsibande has a Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities and a Post Graduate Certificate In Education. She is Head of the Arts Department at St. Anne’s High School. Ms. Sibili Nsibande intends to explore ways in which organizations in the U.S inspire girls to complete their education and encourage them to take subjects that society has labeled as male oriented.

Mauritius - A Melting Pot of Cultures: Mauritius, a multi-racial nation with aspects of cultures from Europe, Africa, India and China, is a melting pot of religions, cultures and languages. Scholar: Kovilah Veeraragoo has a B.A. from University of Madras and PGCE, Mauritius Institute of Education. Mrs. Kovilah Veeraragoo is particularly interested in strategies used in the U.S. to reduce drop-out rates and failures in the implementation of the “No Child Left Behind” legislation.

Angola After the War: The scholar will discuss post-war Angola. Scholar: Tiago Carlos Cubenda Yequenha’s education includes Tecnico Medio IMIP Industrial Institute and a Bachelor’s degree from Agostino Neto University. He is Assistant Headmaster at Externato Adventista de Luanda and is interested in planning, curriculum, data base operations, human resource management, integration of technology in the classroom, extra-curricular activities and staff development.

Marriage Ceremony in Pakistan: The scholar will explain the Pakistani marriage ceremony and show a video. Scholar: Dr. Sabiha Khuram has a B.A. in Sociology, University of the Punjab, Masters in ESL, Kinnaird College, and a Masters in Educational Management, University of Nottingham. She is interested in the inclusion of women in the educational process and hopes to develop links between the United States and Pakistan in education.

This session is tentative - South America: The Challenges of Democracy: An overview of the principal issues that governments have to face in South America to strengthen the democratic system. Scholar: Rodrigo Agrelo is interested in educational innovations adopted in the US, especially in Youth Civic Engagement curricula, Distance Education Learning, charter and special schools, and home schooling. The Sun, Moon, and Earth Related to Your Natal Chart

Tuesdays 9:00 – 10:30 AM Apr 5, 12, 19, 26, May 3, 10

In a short course on personal exploration related to the placement of the sun, moon, and earth to one’s natal chart, participants will complete class work using their individual natal charts. Class members will need to furnish the day, place, and exact times of their births. Charts will be computer-generated for use in their explorations. All that participants need are minds open to the joy of exploration through the cosmos as it relates to life on earth.

Instructor: Hope P. Woodring, long term amateur explorer of the connections between the cosmos and life on earth, is fascinated by the clues provided through exploring these mysteries and looks forward to sharing these experiences with others.
